First … Stop the bleeding: Ideas here.
Next: clean it.
Oregano oil in water in a spray bottle is painless, antiseptic and great for this job.
Be sure to use nothing than has lint [cotton wool for example] to clean the wound. You don’t want the wound to keep erupting to chuck out lint or gravel. Be sure it is good and clean.
Anti-tetanus homeopathy style: If it is a puncture wound that’s gone quite deep, ensure it bleeds a bit [aerate the wound] and give Ledum 30c 3 times over the day.
Pain killing & wound cleaning, homeopathy style: hypericum 30c in a medical solution. Give a few sips every 5 mins until the pain is better [no more than 5 doses though]. If the pain eases at all, stop giving doses. If the pain starts up again … start the max 5 doses again.
Healing, homeopathy style: give calendula 200c morning and night for one day. If you see any redness around the wound or it starts to look infected, gets warm etc, repeat the 2 doses of calendula 200c.
Keep it dry & clean. Try not to keep it under a plaster. Let the air get to it. Get stitches if you need stitches of course.
It’s good to have these first aid remedies made up as medical solutions. You are gonna need them often enough! How to make a Medical Solution.
Scheduled surgery can be unavoidable, even for people with additional health problems and risk factors, like my 3 year old patient Ida, now in recovery after surgery for a double hernia.
Advancements in surgery mean that more can be done with key hole techniques and the strain on small children and frail adults is reduced in a wonderful way. However, Ida has a shunt that empties close to where keyhole surgery would have to be done, so she didn’t have this option.
As a homeopath I’m asked by patients and their families to help with recovery after surgery. If you’d like support with recovery after surgery, contact me on 07544812470 in the UK. Support can be offered worldwide via skype. Meanwhile, read Ida’s story below:
Yesterday, I was on call for Ida, after she came out of surgery and over night.
She has additional challenges:
She is joyous each time we skype consult and I’ve witnessed her learning to walk and talk, and even learning to pronounce my name “Sally!” (Not a small fete!) … whilst treating her for whooping cough and fevers, worms and her general health problems.
She is a mini miracle & is hitting mile stones her parents were warned she'd likely never hit. She is continuing to defy all the odds. Click To Tweet
Read on to find out how we helped her recovery after surgery.
The following are useful points to remember:
Today she is home. She has had a dose of calpol this morning, but otherwise her pain relief has been managed with mag phos. She’s just had a dose of both hypericum and calendula 200c today (spaced 1 hour apart) as insurance against infection and to speed healing.
I saw a picture of her grinning out of a kiddy car in her garden today. Pretty impressive recovery!

Chloramphenicol is the main antibiotic for bacterial conjunctivitis in the UK and “has caused severe and sometimes fatal blood problems” [Source]. It is also routinely offered after accidents to the eyes.
Fusidic acid is also used, and has the rare side effect of angioedema … swelling of mucus membranes such as the tongue and throat.
Remedies can be ordered individually or in kits from Helios Homeopathy.
Breast milk is good for cleaning eyes during this condition & whilst waiting for remedies to arrive. Cooled, boiled water or breastmilk on disposable pads can be used to bath the eyes.

Coming up in this article: Lyme (Borreliosis) Disease; Homeopathic First Aid for Tick Bites; Climate Change.
Be aware that Lyme Disease does occur in the UK, where it is less often recognised. I have personal experience with Lyme Disease with my eldest daughter in the USA. She became seriously ill (within a month) with neurological problems and Lyme related arthritis. She underwent 70 days of antibiotics with their own consequences.
My second daughter was bitten by a tiny deer tick in Lyme Park, Cheshire, UK and produced the characteristic ‘bull’s eye’ mark (which confirms that the bacterial infection Borreliosis is present). However, I knew the signs and gave her a single dose of Ledum 200c. The bull’s eye subsided and she had no further development of borreliosis symptoms (to date about 7 years). I saw a locum doctor who looked up the disease and offered to monitor her. My own doctor at the time strongly believed that Lyme Disease doesn’t exist in the UK.
Homeopaths consider Ledum as insurance against infections from bites, stings and puncture wounds of all types, once you have been bitten
But if signs of infection develop please consult your homeopathic practitioner and / or doctor.
